Overnight shooting in Jennings, plus today starts legislative session

Good Monday morning to you!  Britney Glaser here in the KPLC 7Newsroom with a look at what's in store on today's Sunrise:

*Jennings police are investigating a shooting from overnight.  The first calls came in around midnight.  Details are not available right now, but there has been confirmation of an active crime scene.

*The 60 day legislative session begins later today in Baton Rouge.  The biggest issue facing the legislature will be the proposed tax changes.  We'll have a preview of what you can expect.

*Florida authorities are hoping good weather will improve their chances of tracking down a sailboat that may be carrying two kidnapped boys.  Find out their Louisiana connection and the description of the boat that they might be aboard.

*The U.S. is bracing for another missile test by North Korea any day as the situation remains tense on the Korean peninsula this morning. 

*On a much lighter note, we'll be opening up the Sunrise Pet Shop to introduce you to an animal in need of a loving home!

    Zachary Bench was sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder on Friday, said Patsy Dugas, spokeswoman for the Calcasieu District Attorney's Office.

    Bench was found guilty of the 2015 murder of Jody Barlow in March.

Rain will arrive as early as midnight and make its way out to our south by 6:00 a.m. Temperatures will cool to the upper 70s. Winds will continue to blow out of the south, but should calm down to 5-10 mph. Over the weekend, we will continue to have higher than normal rain chances. We will have scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon on both days.
