LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

It was a day packed with competition as the 2013 Senior Games kicked off in Lake Charles.

Events will take place just about every day through April 20.

Opening ceremonies were held Friday at McNeese State University.

The games promote physical fitness and active involvement for people over age 50.

"We have washer pitch. We have fake casting. We have basketball free throw. We have table tennis. We have swimming. I hope everyone enjoys themselves today," said Adele Mart of the Senior Games.

The track and field events start bright and early on Saturday at the McNeese State University track.

Those events are open to anyone 40 and over.
