Grambling falls in extra innings to ULM

Dalton Herrington delivered the Warhawks 11th and final hit of the contest in the bottom of the 11th, as his walkoff single to right field lifted ULM (11-18) to a 3-2 victory over Grambling State (10-17) Tuesday night at Warhawk Field.

Judd Edwards drew a leadoff walk and stole second to move into scoring position with Corben Green standing in the batter's box.  Green singled through the right side and moved to second as Edwards was tagged out at home trying to score the decisive run.  After Justin Stawychny was intentionally walked, Herrington sent an 0-1 offering off of the base of the wall in left allowing Green to cross home and give ULM the win.

Tyler Bray (3-1) earned the win after tossing five innings of shutout baseball as he allowed just three hits with six strikeouts.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard first as Jose Longoria scored on Dionte Mandeldove's RBI single to left center.

Grambling State pushed its lead to 2-0 with a single run in the top half of the fifth inning.  Edwin Drexler scored on Longoria's RBI groundout to short.

ULM finally broke through in the home half of the sixth inning as Brandon Alexander scored on a RBI single through the right side by Green to trim the deficit to just one run.

The Warhawks evened the contest in the bottom half of the seventh as Trent Lucas connected on the first homer of his ULM career over the right field wall.

Grambling State and ULM traded zeros on the scoreboard until the bottom of the 11th when Herrington drove in Green to propel the Warhawks to the 3-2 win.

Green finished perfect at the plate as he reached base all five times (four hits, one HBP) with one RBI and one run, while Alexander and Herrington each chipped in two hits.  ULM starter Andrew Richardson earned a no-decision after allowing two runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts in six innings of work.

Tiger reliever Zach Moreau was tagged with the loss after surrendering one run on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work.

ULM will return to the diamond this weekend as it hosts Florida Atlantic in a three-game conference series beginning Friday night at 6 p.m.
