CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

An Iowa man is accused of second-degree battery after he reportedly bit a portion of a woman's finger off and struck her in the face during an altercation.

According to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, on Friday, at approximately 9 p.m., deputies were dispatched to an Iowa home in reference to an alleged domestic battery.

"The caller advised that during a verbal altercation between the victim and her boyfriend, Nathaniel J. Edwards, 44, Iowa, had bit off a portion of the victim's finger, and struck the victim in the face, severely damaging her front bottom teeth. When deputies arrived, they learned Edwards had fled the scene," the release states.

Authorities said an arrest warrant was issued for Edwards and on Saturday, he was located at a family member's home and arrested without incident.

Edwards was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with second-degree battery. He was released on a $25,000 bond set by Judge Robert Wyatt.
