Cowgirls Basketball Great Run Comes to End in WBI Championship

The McNeese State Cowgirls set a lot of first this year. This was the first year they made the postseason three years in a row. The Cowgirls victory over Mercer in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitational marked the first time McNeese won a post season game. Also, it was the first time the program had three consecutive years of 20 wins.

It was the last "first" that the Cowgirls could not make happen, that is winning their first postseason championship as McNeese fell to the University of Detroit, 73-62.

The Cowgirls led 30-28 at halftime, but the Titans were on fire in the second half, scoring 45 points. Detroit shot 56 percent in the half including an unbelievable seven of 12 from the 3-point line.

Ashlyn and Caitlyn Baggett giving their all to the very last second, scoring 22 and 16 points respectively. Ashlyn also hitting four threes in the game, which makes her the Southland's all-time leader in three pointers.

While the Cowgirls weren't able to bring a title home, they did complete another first, as they were the first team to reach a postseason championship game.
