Easter egg hunt draws hundreds in Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

The annual Easter egg hunt that draws hundreds near the Lake Charles Civic Center was again a success on Good Friday.

The KYKZ 96 Easter egg hunt kicked off at 10 a.m. Friday at the Veterans Memorial Park.

The sponsors of the event provided thousands of chocolate eggs, including many eggs with some special prizes.

This is the 25th year that the radio station has sponsored the event.

    A heat advisory has been issued for our area through the day today. This advisory began at noon and lasts until 8 pm tonight. This advisory is due to forecast highs in the mid-90s combined with dewpoints in the 70s. These two-combined causes the heat index to soar between 108 and 112. Through this evening expect continued hot and mostly sunny conditions.

    A Singer man pled guilty on Wednesday to robbing a DeQuincy bank of almost $16,000 in December, according to U.S Attorney David C. Joseph's office. Gordon Scott Cooper, 56, Singer, pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kathleen Kay to one count of bank robbery. The guilty plea states that Cooper entered a bank with an air-powered BB gun that looked like an automatic pistol and stole $15,999 from two teller drawers.
