Centenary grabs 20th win of the season; beats No.2 Trinity 3-1

The Centenary baseball team picked up its 20th win of the season with a 3-1 victory at No. 2/3 Trinity on Thursday evening. The Gents move to 12-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

Same two squads meet tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

Centenary received a solid, complete-game performance from Layton Tromba (5-2) on the mound. Tromba fanned four batters while allowing seven hits and a pair of walks in the contest. The Bossier City, La., sophomore forced 15 fly ball outs and garnered eight ground outs while leaving eight Tigers stranded on the bases.

The Gents tallied five hits in the contest with two coming from Jemari James, but four coming in the sixth inning when the Maroon and White recorded all three of its runs en route to the victory.

Tyler Clakley, Craig Littleman and James each logged RBI singles to overtake the Tiger's narrow, one-run lead after five innings. All three runs scored with two outs in the frame. Matt Creamer posted the lone other hit in the inning with a one-out single.

Ryan Lucero suffered his first loss of the season pitching 5.2 innings in the start. Lucero, the conference's top pitcher entering the contest, allowed just one, Centenary hit through the first five innings, but was chased away in the sixth after the Maroon and White plated its three runs to take the lead. Lucero fanned nine batters in the contest along with two walks.

Kyle Bogese tossed 3.1, hitless innings in relief striking out five and walking a pair.

Christian Muscarello and Will Donnan paced the Tigers at the plate with two hits each.

He had received 22 scholarship offers to play football prior to making his decision.
