Two Lake Charles citizens speak out after deaths of 10 friends

Good Thursday morning to you!  Britney Glaser here with a look at what's in store on today's Sunrise:

*Two Lake Charles citizens are calling for a wake-up call for the community after last week's triple homicide.  Harmony Jackson and Kamie Dominic say they've lost more than 10 friends to violence since graduating from high school in 2008.

*The investigation into a deadly train accident in DeQuincy yesterday picks back up this morning.  We'll tell you what led to the death of 81-year-old Curtis Sandifer.

*Opelousas Police use a new type of technology to arrest a father and son accused of trying to steal from a tractor business.  Find out how the "virtual patrol police watch" works.

*Today and Saturday are the only days left to vote early for the April 6th elections.  We'll take a look at some more items on the ballot.

*10 Cameron Parish bridges are slated for repair - nearly eight years after Hurricane Rita destroyed them.  Find out where the funding is coming from and when the work is expected to be completed.

    This morning the Lake Charles housing authority opened its waiting list for the first time since 2014. The waiting list application process closed around noon today hundreds of residents lined up around this building some even lining up as early as 9:45 last night “We had given out 700 applications by 8:30 we ended up over 1,000,” said Ben Taylor, the director of the Lake Charles Housing Authority.     The last suspect in the "Havana Speed" drug operation has been sentenced to more than five years in prison. The methamphetamine distribution ring stretched from Mexico, Texas, and into southwest Louisiana. The suspect, Raul Perez-Mendoza, 26, of Dallas, was sentenced Friday, July 21, to more than five years in prison for conspiracy to posses with intent to distribute meth.  He is also sentenced to five years of supervised release.  Perez-Mendoza and seven other...

    Part of the reason the waiting list takes for Section 8 Housing takes so long to pare down is because there's a shortage of Section 8 housing, at least in the Lake Charles area.
