OPELOUSAS, LA (KPLC) -

Two Iowa men are accused of trying to steal ATVs from Progressive Tractor, an Opelousas business, according to a news release from the Opelousas Police Department.

Authorities said 46-year-old Douglas Zaunbrecher Sr. and 20-year-old Douglas Zaunbrecher Jr. were arrested following an investigation utilizing a new dispatch feature that the department is using.

Opelousas Police is the first law enforcement agency in Louisiana to implement Virtual Patrol tm, a real-time surveillance system monitored by the department. Progressive Tractor invested in the system, authorities said.

Authorities, around 12:09 a.m. Sunday, did a live "virtual patrol" of the business using the technology and observed two men on the property.

Dispatchers informed patrol officers and they responded. The men were reportedly seen mounting an ATV and loading it on a trailer.

When officers arrived, the men fled on foot. They apprehended shortly thereafter and were also charged with unauthorized use of a movable and resisting an officer.

Anyone who has had contact with the men regarding lawn equipment and ATVs is asked to call the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office tip line at 337-491-3730.
