Senate budget amendment could secure funds for VA clinics

Temporary VA clinic in Lake Charles Temporary VA clinic in Lake Charles

Lake Charles and Lafayette could get new, permanent VA facilities from a Senate budget amendment in Washington, D.C.

The budget amendment, green-lighted early Saturday, would allow for funding for the two clinics. The amendment also eliminates one of the budgetary hurdles delaying construction.

It would allow the Lafayette clinic to remain open and put a permanent facility in Lake Charles.

Right now, the VA is operating a temporary clinic on 5th Avenue, the former site of the state's career center.
