JEFF DAVIS PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A Basile man is accused of drug possession, according to a news release from the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office.

Christopher Ivey, commander of the criminal investigations division, said 32-year-old Lawrence Lavergne Jr. was arrested Monday, accused of cocaine possession.

Authorities said Lavergne was operating a vehicle on Roberts Avenue in Jennings when he was reportedly observed being incoherent and fidgeting behind the wheel.

"Lavergne admitted to obtaining the drugs from an acquaintance in Pasadena, Texas before leaving for home. Lavergne ingested some of the white powder substance and was feeling sick. Acadian Ambulance transported Lavergne to the Jennings American Legion Hospital for treatment," Ivey said.

Lavergne was booked into the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail on possession of CDS II.

No bond has been set.
