Troopers identify pedestrian killed in Sunday accident

SUNSET, LA (KPLC) -

Louisiana State troopers have identified the pedestrian killed in a traffic crash near Sunset on Sunday.

Troopers said 28-year-old Jerome Woodley, of Opelousas, died in the accident.

On Sunday, troopers responded to the crash which happened on the I-49 service road at Roxanne Road, north of Sunset.

According to investigating troopers, at 6:12 a.m., 59-year-old Guilliam Leger, of Opelousas, was driving a 1990 Dodge passenger car south on the service road approaching Roxanne Road.  

A pedestrian wearing dark clothing was walking south in the lane of travel.

Troopers said for reasons still under investigation, the pedestrian was struck from behind by Leger's vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner.

Leger, who was restrained, was not injured in the crash.

Troopers said it is unknown if the pedestrian was impaired; however, toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis.  

The crash remains under investigation.
