Lake Charles pair facing drug charges

CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles man and woman are facing a slew of drug charges, according to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said on March 15, detectives with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team), along with the assistance of SWAT Team members, executed a search warrant at the home of 26-year-old James Williams and 23-year-old Lanisha Bellard after an investigation reportedly revealed multiple incidents of drug activity at the home.

Authorities said as the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Anti-Crime and Tactics (ACT) Team entered the home, they discovered three small children under the age of 3 years old that had been left unattended inside the home.

Authorities said during the search of the home, approximately 308 grams of marijuana, 36 Xanax pills, 56 Concerta pills (used to treat ADHD), numerous items of drug paraphernalia, five firearms which included one shotgun, a .22 caliber rifle, a high powered .30 caliber rifle and a .40 caliber pistol and an AR-15, both of which had been reported stolen through CPSO. 

Authorities said detectives also recovered numerous ammunition rounds including eight loaded AR-15 magazines were recovered from the home, along with military body armor, and over $5,000 in cash believed to be profits from narcotic sells.

Authorities said Williams was located and arrested traveling in his vehicle heading back to his home and Bellard was located and arrested on Gordon Woods Drive, one road south of Lake Fairway Drive. 

Both were booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and both charged with five counts of possession of a firearm in the presence of CDS, two counts illegal possession of a stolen firearm, three counts of illegal possession of CDS in presence of juveniles, possession of CDS CDS I (marijuana) with intent, possession of CDS II (Concerta); possession of CDS IV (Xanax) with intent and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Williams, who was also arrested on two active warrants for distribution of CDS I (marijuana), is also charged with unlawful possession of body armor and Bellard, who was also arrested on an active warrant for distribution of CDS I (marijuana), is also charged with three counts of child desertion, according to authorities.

Judge Michael Canaday set Williams' bond at $361,000; and set Bellard's bond at $266,000.
