CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A Sulphur man is accused of stealing stereo equipment and other items from a car dealership where he was employed.

According to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, 39-year-old Billy C. Pope was charged in the case.

Authorities said on Tuesday, deputies were dispatched to the dealership in reference to the theft allegation.

Pope is accused of stealing items from vehicles that were repossessed or vehicles that were going up for auction.

"When questioned by detectives, Pope confirmed he stole several items, including stereo equipment. During further investigation, detectives searched Pope's home and recovered numerous amounts of stereo equipment and other items, valued at over $15,000, believed to come from vehicles at the local dealership," the release states.

Pope was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with two counts of theft over $1,500 and two counts of simple burglary.

Judge Robert Wyatt set his bond at $15,000.
