SWLA Easter events

The following local events have been announced in celebration of Easter:

Easter Egg Hunt: March 23 from 10 a.m. to noon at Glad Tidings Church, located at 3400 Texas St. in Lake Charles. Admission is free. For more information, call 337-477-7774 or email cheri@gladtidingschurch.com.

"The Choice" Easter musical: March 24 at 10:15 a.m. and March 29-30 at 7 p.m. at Maplewood First Baptist Church, located at 4501 Maplewood Drive in Sulphur. The performances are free. For more information, call the church office at (337) 625-5899.

Decorating Easter Cupcakes: March 26 at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Fontenot Memorial Library, located at 1402 Center St. in Vinton. Adults will create decorative cupcakes. All supplies will be provided. For more information, call 721-7095.

Easter Crafts: March 26 at 3:30 p.m. at Carnegie Memorial Library, located at 411 Pujo St. in Lake Charles. Teens will dye, paint and decorate eggs using a large variety materials and embellishments. Snacks will be provided. Registration is required. For more information, call 721-7084.

Easter Party: March 27 at 11:15 a.m. at the Epps Memorial Library, located at 1320 North Simmons St. Children will dye and decorate Easter eggs, make snacks, and have an Easter egg hunt in the library! All of this will happen right after a very special Easter themed story time and craft! Registration is required. For more information, call 721-7090.

Rabbits: March 27 at 2 p.m. at the Starks Library, located at 113 S. Hwy. 109. Pre-K children will enjoy finger plays, crafts, and stories. For more information, call 743-6560 or 721-7107.  

Easter: March 27 at 3 p.m. at the Hayes Library, located at 7709 Perier St. It's Easter time, so hop on over to learn more about the Easter Bunny! For more information, call 721-7098 or 622-3605.  

Creative Eggs: March 28 at 4 p.m. at the Hayes Library, located at 7709 Perier St. Teens will create beautiful eggs using supplied materials. Registration is required. For more information, call 721-7098 or 622-3605.

Around-the-clock Roman Guard Watch: March 29 at 6 p.m. to March 31 at 9 a.m. on the South Lawn at First Baptist Church, located at 401 S. Huntington Street in Sulphur. For more information, call 337-527-5231 or visit fbcsulphur.org.

2nd Annual Easter in the Park: March 30 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Iowa City Park. The event is free and open to the public and is being hosted by the Iowa Women's League. Easter egg hunt times are as follows: 10:30 a.m. for children up to 3 years old, 10:45 a.m. for children ages 4 to 6 and 11 a.m. for children ages 7 and up. The event will feature Easter games, a coloring station, prizes and pictures with the Easter bunny. Participants are asked to bring their own Easter baskets, and all children present must be accompanied by an adult.

Lake Area Easter Festival: March 30 from 10 a.m. to noon at Trinity Baptist Church, located at corner of Nelson and Country Club roads in Lake Charles. The event is free and open to the public. The event will feature inflatables, games, prizes, face painting, food and a movie. The rides and egg pick-up are for children up to 5th grade students. Participants are asked to bring their own bag or basket.

Eggstravaganza: March 30 at the Leesville Lions Camp on U.S. 171 north of Leesville. Gates open at 10 a.m., and the egg hunt event is free and open to the public. The egg hunt for infants to four-year-olds will be at 12:05 p.m. The hunt for ages five to 7 will be at 12:20 p.m. and the hunt for 8- to 10-year-olds will be at 12:40 p.m. There will be activities and games, and food and beverage vendors will be present. Proceeds from the event benefit the Louisiana Lions Camp and the Vernon Sheriff's Youth Association.

Easter Sunrise Service: March 31 from 4:30 to 5:45 a.m. at Hodges Gardens State Park. Members of church choirs from Natchitoches, Sabine, Vernon and Beauregard Parishes will perform on the Lakefront Stage. Admission to the event is free, and participants are asked to bring their own lawn chairs. For more information, call 800-354-3523.

Easter Sunrise Service: March 31 at 6:30 a.m. at Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, located at 2111 West Park Avenue in Orange, Texas. The service will be led by Pastor Eddie Lee Smith of New Beginnings Church Outreach Ministry with music provided by the New Beginnings Choir of Orange. The event is free and open to the public, and visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs for seating. Following the service, attendees may enjoy a complimentary stroll through the gardens until 9:00 a.m. For more information, call 409-670-9113 or visit www.shangrilagardens.org.

Easter "Sunrise" Resurrection Drama: March 31 at 8 a.m. on the South Lawn at First Baptist Church, located at 401 S. Huntington Street in Sulphur. For more information, call 337-527-5231 or visit fbcsulphur.org.

5th Annual Scuba Easter Egg Hunt and Picnic: April 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Yogi Bear Park in Moss Bluff. True Blue Watersports is hosting the event, which will feature over 80 divers, 200 eggs, prizes, food and entertainment. For more information, call 240-2211.

    Snowmen in SWLA? Not likely, not often, but they emerged this morning. As two to three inches of snow fell throughout the area, many took the rare opportunity to build a snowman.
