TAMPA, FL (WFLA/NBC) - Airport officials and travelers alike are curious to know what happed to 31-year-old Chad Wolfe of Newton, PA. According to airport officials, Wolfe's body was found early Friday morning inside a shaft of the Armstrong elevators at Tampa International Airport.

TIA police say Wolfe entered the Armstrong elevators at midnight Friday and that it stopped working about 3:00 a.m. Police say repair crews found Wolfe's body at 10:00 a.m. later that morning.

The victim's father, Garland Wolfe, said police told him that his son, "pried open the elevator and fell to his death." Garland Wolfe said that he was puzzled by the theory given by police. "He's only 150 pounds roughly and to pry an elevator door open, I don't see that happening," said Garland Wolfe.

Frequent travelers like Mara Roth were stunned to hear the news of the death. "I go to a lot of airports and it is a great airport so I am kind of surprised to hear that but I will be on the lookout for more security when I am here…especially when you get in late at night." Roth said.

Meanwhile, authorities are trying to figure out exactly what happened to Wolf and how he ended up in the elevator shaft. Authorities have yet to officially release Wolfe's cause of death.

Garland Wolf still cannot comprehend what may have happened to his son, "Literally, to pry open an elevator door and then fall to his death didn't make sense…he would never jump…he had a good life and everything was going good for him at his age."
