FAA to announce air traffic control closures Friday

Posted: Updated:
LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

The Federal Aviation Administration will reportedly announce its decision Friday on which air traffic control towers will close around the nation.

Federal sequestration has cut $600 million to the FAA. Nearly 200 towers around the country face closure.

The FAA will issue a written statement Friday on which air traffic control towers will be affected by staff reductions.

Two local airports may be impacted: Lake Charles Regional Airport and Chennault International Airport.

Lake Charles Regional officials say the airport can handle the closure of its control tower due to the number of flights from the airport.

Chennault officials say if their facility is on the list, it will pay out of pocket to keep the control tower operational.
