CAMERON PARISH, LA (KPLC) -
Cameron Parish will receive $1.7 million for upgrades to bridges damaged or destroyed in Hurricane Rita, according to a news release from U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La.
Landrieu announced Monday that the disaster recovery grants will help replace 10 timber bridges that were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Rita.
Landrieu said the funds are provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency Public Assistance Program.
"The devastation caused by Hurricane Rita severely disrupted the lives of residents in Cameron Parish," Landrieu said in a release. "Today's necessary funds will help local business and transportation, allowing the area to continue to rebuild and recover. I am proud of this community's resilience and know that the return of these bridges is an important boost."
