Preacher sentenced in shooting case

CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) - The Lake Charles preacher who officials say was high on crack when he opened fire inside a house full of people was sentenced to two years in prison.

Barry Welton Thomas, 53, pleaded guilty to second-degree battery charges.

Two people were shot in the 2009 incident.

Thomas is pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Lake Charles.

The judge also ordered Thomas to pay $200,000 to compensate the victims' medical expenses.
