Preacher sentenced in shooting case

CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

The Lake Charles preacher who officials say was high on crack when he opened fire inside a house full of people was sentenced to two years in prison.

Barry Welton Thomas, 53, pleaded guilty to second-degree battery charges.

Two people were shot in the 2009 incident.

Thomas is pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Lake Charles.

The judge also ordered Thomas to pay $200,000 to compensate the victims' medical expenses.

    A drive-by shooting on a bicycle has been reported in Vinton, officials say. No one was hit by a bullet, nor was the house, said Vinton Police Chief Ricky Fox. The person who reported the shooting said they were outside the home when a person on a bicycle drove by and fired at the home, according to Fox.
