Demon pitching struggles in loss to TCU

Texas Christian scored two or more runs in four innings to give the Horned Frogs a 13-6 win over the Northwestern State baseball team Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
 
TCU (7-9) opened the game up with a score in the first inning, and then added two runs in the second and eighth inning. Then the Horned Frogs put four runs on the board in the each of the fourth and fifth innings. 
 
NSU (9-10) scored two in the third inning, one in the fourth, and three in the seventh.  The Demon pitching staff gave up 12 hits, six walks, and two hit by pitches.
 
Cody Butler (1-1) got the start and the loss, and worked 3.1 innings and allowed seven runs on six hits.  Stefan Crichton started the game for the Frogs, but was lifted in the fourth inning after he gave up seven hits and three runs.
 
Alex Young (3-1) took the win with 1.1 innings pitched and one hit.
 
Cody Jones was two-for-two with two runs scored and five runs batted in for TCU.  Boomer White was three-of-four with two RBI and one run.  Keaton Jones and Josh Gonzales each scored three runs.
 
Cort Brinson led the Demons in runs batted in with two on a one-of-four day. Matt Burns had three hits and Nick Purdy, Garrett Killgore, and Todd Wallace each had two base-knocks.
 
NSU finished with one more hits than the Frogs, but the Demons left 11 runners on base.  
 
Ashton Sivigliano pitched 1.2 innings and Nick Helmstetter faced three hitters without getting an out.  The two combined for five hits and six runs.

Edwin Gomez, Zach Krebs, and Cameron Brewer pitched an inning each.  Brewer gave up a hit, and Gomez walked a batter.
 
Toby Cornejo scored on Brinson's single in the third inning. Brinson scored immediately after when Purdy doubled down the left field line.
 
Brinson got his second RBI on a bases-loaded hit by pitch that scored Matt Farmer.
 
NSU put up a three-spot in the seventh when Matt Baca led the off the frame with a single up the middle and was pinch ran for by Nathan Lyons.  Lyons advanced to third on a double to left field by Wallace.  Reid Van Bussum hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Lyons.
 
Burns singled and then advanced to second on a wild pitch, and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher.  Todd Wallace scored on the wild pitch. Burns later scored when Killgore singled to second base.
 
NSU will continue its road trip when it goes to Oklahoma on Friday at 6:30 to open a three-game weekend series. The Demons will play LSU on March 20 before returning to Brown-Stroud Field to open the Southland Conference play with Southeastern Louisiana.
