LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
The Lake Charles Police Department welcomes a new member of management.
Chief Don Dixon recently narrowed down a field of six applicants to appoint Shawn Caldwell as Deputy Chief.
Caldwell has been with LCPD since 1993 in various roles - from the patrol to traffic division and most recently, internal affairs.
Caldwell said he's ready to get to work in his new role.
"I look forward to getting out and meeting with members of the community and members of the public and making some connections and learning what their ideas are and what they think the police department can offer them. And see if we can work through it and bring out some new ideas and just things to improve our life here in Lake Charles," said Caldwell.
Caldwell takes the place of Joel Smith who recently retired.
