LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
Lake Charles is now home to a celebrity pooch.
Jeanie, a three-legged rescue dog, is the national spokespet for Petco Foundation's "Spring a Pet" fundraiser.
The goal of the fundraiser is to collect donations that will then be distributed to local rescue groups that partner with Petco.
The money will help the rescue groups adopt dogs to good homes.
Jeanie was adopted five years ago. Despite having only three legs, her owner said she has a lot of spirit and encourages others to get involved and think about adopting when looking for a pet.
"Adoptions is really what we believe in because there are so many dogs that need to be adopted in the Lake Charles area out at the shelter with these various groups. It's very important that we help them with funds so that we can get these dogs back in the community. A lot of these dogs have been abandoned and have behavioral issues ... and they just need a little help. That's why it's so important," said Ed Chavanne, Petco General Manager.
Donations for the "Spring a Pet" fundraiser will be accepted through March 23.
