LSUS crushes Huston-Tillotson in double header

The no. 2 LSU Shreveport Pilots (16-7, 5-3 RRAC) dominated the Huston-Tillotson Rams (5-19, 2-6 RRAC) sweeping Friday's double header at Pilot Field taking game one 11-1 in seven innings and game two 13-3 in seven. LSUS combined for 32 hits in the twin bill while allowing only six.

GAME 1 (W 11-1)
Greg Friesen and Rory Young powered the Pilots to an 11-1 victory over HTU in the first game of the double header. Friesen blasted his first homer of the year, a grand slam as part of a six-run bottom of the third inning for the Pilots as they led comfortably 7-0.

Young powered his way through the HTU lineup and made a run at a no-hitter but those dreams were shattered with the leadoff batter of the sixth inning as Adam Chatman doubled down the left field line. He later scored to blow the shutout as well.

Young (3-1) surrendered only two hits in seven innings of work going the distance for the second time this year for the Pilots while walking only one and striking out 10 batters.

The Pilots pounded a total of 15 hits in the contest with six different hitters with multi hits: Ridge Gonsoulin (2-3), Kyle Pearson (2-4), Greg Friesen (2-3, 5-rbis), Kade Billeaudeaux (2-3), K.J. Semien (3-4, 2-rbis), and Manny Estrada (2-3, 4-rbis).

GAME 2 (W 13-3)
Kyle Pearson led the charge for the Pilots at the plate while Paul Barton handled things on the mound in the night cap of the weekend series. Pearson 4-5 at the plate with four runs batted in including an inside-the-park two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Barton (3-2) worked a solid six innings allowing only two hits and one earned run with two walks and six strikeouts. Reagan Calvert worked a good seventh inning and closed the game allowing the Pilots to add a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.

The Pilots walked off in the bottom of the seventh inning as Garrett Lambert and Gonsoulin blasted back-to-back triples and then Pearson drove in Gonsoulin for the game winner to enforce the 10-run rule.

LSUS got started in the first inning with three runs as Pearson, Brandon Cooksey, and LeJeune all had rbi-singles to lead the charge. Cooksey and Semien each added run-scoring singles in the three-run third for the Pilots.

The final game of the series will be tomorrow afternoon at Pilot Field at 1 p.m.
