Chavez Flag Controversy

   Good afternoon. This is Cynthia Arceneaux from the KPLC newsroom. The death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is causing controversy in the Lake Area. It appears some residents are upset because the local Citgo plant is flying its flags at half staff in honor of the Venezuelan leader. Citgo is owned by Venezuela. We'll be hearing from those for and against the celebratory gesture towards a man, who definitely was at odds with the U.S.

Residents near that sinkhole in Assumption Parish want to know why Governor Bobby Jindal has not visited the site yet. The giant hole first appeared back in August. Today, Governor Jindal sidestepped questions from reporters.

 And help is on the way for small businesses in Cameron Parish. The Chairman of the Delta Regional Authority was here to announce a 375 thousand dollar investment in Cameron. The investment will come in the form of the Cameron Local Enterprise And Recruiting Center... Or CLEAR. The center will serve as an incubator for all types of small businesses.

The event took place at Christian World Ministries on Gautheir Rd. It was an event catered towards the entire family.     Ainsley's Angels of America held their 5th annual Sunset 5K on Saturday at the Civic Center. Close to 400 people participated in this year's event.     A Lake Charles man has been arrested after a fatal crash in Sulphur early Sunday morning, according to Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats. Coats says at approximately 2:30 a.m., a head-on collision occurred on Beglis Parkway. A man was transported to an area hospital where he died of his injuries. Christian McCoy, 24, Lake Charles, was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and careless operation. Coats says he was released after posting an $11,000 bond. 7News will update ...More >>
