BATON ROUGE, LA (KPLC) -
On Jan. 18, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association made a huge change in the football playoff system, creating separate playoff divisions for traditionally public and private schools.
The vote in favor of Proposition 18 came from the perception that select schools - private schools and others that have selective admissions policies - were dominating the football championships due to that advantage.
Now, the state legislature is taking a look at the new system.
Proponents and opponents of Proposition 18 met at the state capitol this week for a hearing about the new playoff system.
Public school principals said the old system was unfair while private school principals said the passage of Proposition 18 was based upon emotion and not real evidence.
