Free to Breathe Lung Cancer Walk is Saturday, March 16

Join us for the 5th Annual Free to Breathe Lake Charles Lung Cancer 5K Run & 1-Mile Walk to raise awareness and support in the movement to defeat lung cancer.

All proceeds will benefit the Louisiana Lung Cancer Partnership's research, education and awareness programs.

Event Schedule:

7 a.m. - Event day registration
7:50 a.m. - Welcome begins
(Warm-up and stretching will be led before the race.)
8 a.m. - Run begins
(Walk begins following the start of the 5K runners.)

A rally and awards ceremony will follow the race.

Event Day (beginning at 7 a.m.)

All online and mail-in registrants are guaranteed an event T-shirt. A limited quantity of T-shirts will be available for those registering on event day.

The top three individual fundraisers and top three fundraising teams (based on totals as of 4 p.m. on March 7) will be acknowledged on event day. Fundraising will remain open through April 30.

Participants will be chip-timed. Awards will be presented to the top male and female 5K finishers in the following age brackets: 13-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50+. All children in the 12 and under age group for both the 5K and 1-mile courses will receive medals.

Course Description
The 5K course begins behind the Lake Charles Civic Center on Bor-du-Lac Drive and winds through the Margaret Place Historic District. The course continues along the Shell Beach Drive under the majestic oak trees, where participants will enjoy the peaceful view of Lake Charles on the right and the prestigious homes of Shell Beach Drive on the left.

Directions and Parking
From I-10 West: Take the Lakeshore Drive exit, drive under the I-10 bridge and around to the Civic Center.

From I-10 East: Take the Lakeshore Drive exit and proceed around to the Civic Center.

From I-210: Take the Lake Street exit and proceed north to Shell Beach Drive. Turn right; Civic Center will be on left.
