History Awaits Fairview, Lacassine at Class B Championship

Fairview and Lacassine will meet on Wednesday in the girls Class B state championship.

It's a rematch of last year's title game, which was won by the Lady Panthers, but that is just one of many different intriguing storylines as this game approaches.

Both teams have been on a collision course since the playoffs began, with top seed Lacassine putting up ridiculous scores like 93-to-8 on its opponents, and Fairview going over 100 points twice in four playoffs games.

But while Fairview is the #2 seed, the Lady Panthers actually have the upper hand. They won the 2012 championship over Lacassine as the #2 seed, and in fact, Fairview has won six state titles in a row and 7 in the last 8 years, and three of those championships have come at the expense of the Lady Cardinals.

Lacassine has won 6 basketball championships, but none since 1981, long before any of the current Cardinals were even born. Oh and by the way, Lacassine coach Eddie Michalko has announced he is retiring after one last game against Fairview.
