Police make arrest in Tiger Nation store armed robbery

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Lake Charles Police have made an arrest in the April 2012 armed robbery of the Tiger Nation store on Prien Lake Road.

Police arrested William Shupp, 41, of Spring, Texas.

According to Deputy Police Chief Mark Kraus, Shupp was identified through DNA evidence.

On April 12, 2012, a partially disguised white male entered the LSU-themed store with a handgun demanding money.

Police said the suspect incapacitated the victim and fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, which was later found in the 4000 block of Nelson Road. Police recovered evidence inside the vehicle belonging to the suspect which was sent to the Southwest Crime Lab for DNA analysis.

On Feb. 28, 2013, Sgt. Richard Harrell was notified that a suspect had been identified through DNA. He was identified as Shupp. An arrest warrant was issued for Shupp and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office was contacted for assistance in locating him.

On March 1, 2013, the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force contacted the Lake Charles Police Department and advised that Shupp had been captured. The task force is comprised of the Montgomery County Sheriff's SWAT team and members of the U.S. Marshal Service.

Shupp is charged with armed robbery, false imprisonment, theft and theft of a motor vehicle.  Judge Davis has set a total bond amount for Shupp at $450,000.

At the time of the robbery, investigators released pictures of a man they believed was a "person of interest."

The suspect was wearing a "Grateful Dead" T-shirt with the year "1977" on both sides of the image.

Kraus said they believe the man is Shupp.

Sunny and nice for Thanksgiving!!!Sunny and nice for Thanksgiving!!!

The next few days will be rather chilly with temperatures below normal for this time of year!  A warming trend begins this weekend, but the weather still looks great for anything outdoors.  Temperatures will fall rapidly this evening with lows by Thursday morning ranging from the upper 20s north of I-10 to the low 40s at the coast.  The wind may not calm entirely and that might keep frost from becoming widespread north of I-10.
