Combined shutout leads Bears past Demons

Four Missouri State pitchers threw a combined shutout to give the Bears a 5-0 win over the Northwestern State baseball team Sunday in non-conference action.
 
Jonathan Harris (2-0) worked six innings for MSU (7-2) and allowed five hits and struck out eight. Erik Shannahan, Matt Hall, and Tyler Burgess threw three combined innings in relief and struck out five.
 
The Bears scored the first run in the opening inning on NSU (6-6) starter A.J. Funk (0-2) when Keenen Maddox sacrifice fly to score Dylan Becker.
 
Funk pitched six innings and gave up seven hits and three runs.  Ashton Sivigliano worked one inning and allowed two runs on three hits.  Nick Helmstetter threw one inning.
 
Missouri State added a run in the fifth and when Becker singled through the right side to score Joey Hawkins.  The Bears added another in the sixth when Conner Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Luke Voit.
 
Two more scored in the seventh on a double from Patrick Drake and a single by Tate Matheny.
 
Becker, Matheny, Hawkins, and Drake all had multi-hit games, and the Bears as a team had 10 hits.
 
Toby Cornejo, Garrett Killgore, Will Watson, Todd Wallace, Edwin Gomez, and Cort Brinson each had a hit for the Demons. Gomez had a triple in the ninth inning.
 
Northwestern State will open a two-game series with Tulane on Tuesday and returns home Friday to play Louisiana-Monroe.
