LSUS Lady Pilots win in first round of RRAC Tourney

WAXAHACHIE, TX -

The no. 25 LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots basketball team picked a with in the quarter final round of the 2013 Red River Athletic Conference Tournament with a 77-54 win over St. Thomas on Friday morning at Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

Sharde Henry led the Lady Pilots once again pouring in 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds while Christy Willis netted 15 points. Ariel Harrel each tossed in 11 points while Jenna Diakos had 10. Henry had pin-point control with nine for nine shooting from the field but missed one of her two free-throw attempts to just miss a perfect day shooting.

Willis, in addition to being one of five Lady Pilots to had double digit points, dished out the game-high of five assists.

LSUS (25-4) turned the ball over 15 times but forced St. Thomas into 18 miscues. St. Thomas (15-16) made a good run especially in the first half when they converted on six of 10 three-pointers which boosted them to a one-point lead at the break.

The Lady Pilots buckled down on defending the arc as St. Thomas made only one of eight from downtown as LSUS dominated the second half of play shooting 55-percent from the field out scoring St. Thomas 46-22 in the final half.

LSUS controlled the glass cleaning the boards 35-27 with Ariel Harrel pulling down six offensive rebounds to total for seven rebounds while Jessica Carper pulled down eight. The Lady Pilots have now won six straight games and 15 of their last 16.

The next game in the tournament for the Lady Pilots will be tomorrow afternoon against the Our Lady of the Lake and Huston-Tillotson winner at 2 p.m.
