SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

LSU Shreveport announced today they will cut men's and women's soccer from their athletic department. Athletic Director Chad McDowell said in a press conference that the teams will be replaced with men's and women's soccer.

McDowell said the athletes will receive their scholarships for the remainder of the spring semester.

"After that it will be on a case by case basis," said McDowell.

Many of the soccer players who spoke with KSLA News 12 said they were surprised with the news on Wednesday afternoon. Players have started a petition to keep the soccer programs at the school. One player we spoke with said they already have more than 100 signatures.
