CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -
A Westlake man was booked Thursday on fourth offense DWI, according to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said at around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, deputies were dispatched to a convenience store on N. Cities Service Highway in Sulphur regarding a report of a vehicle driving off after stealing gas.
Authorities said deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description driving westbound on I-10 near, mile marker 21, and conducted a traffic stop.
Authorities said when deputies approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, 34-year-old Roger D. Thomas Jr., they detected a strong odor of alcohol from his breath as well as slurred speech.
"After performing poorly on a standard field sobriety test, Thomas was arrested and transferred to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, where a breath intoxilzer test revealed he was over the legal limit," the release states.
Authorities said Thomas, who has had three DWI arrests since 2009, was arrested and booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with DWI fourth-offense, open container and driving while under suspension for DWI.
