SWLA Forestry Association annual meeting and forestry forum set

DERIDDER, LA (KPLC) -

The LSU AgCenter and SWLA Forestry Association will host its annual meeting and forestry forum from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 9 at the exhibition hall of the Beauregard Parish Fairgrounds in DeRidder.

Leaders will be presenting a program to help forest landowners.

Dr. Don Reed, AgCenter Wildlife Biologist, will speak about whitetail deer food plots.

Dr. Tim Showalter, AgCenter Forest Entomologist, will describe what trends he anticipates about the southern pine beetle. He will also speak about non-native insect pests that may attempt to infest Louisiana.

Dr. Mike Blazier, AgCenter Research Forester, will update attendees about the latest in eucalyptus forestry in Southwest Louisiana.

Buck Vandersteen, executive director of the Louisiana Forestry Association, will speak about the state of Louisiana Forestry.
The cost is $25 per household comprised of a husband, wife and dependent children. The cost also includes annual membership due and entitles member to attend other workshops at no charge. The cost also covers lunch for this gathering.

    The Lake Area Radio Kontrol Society celebrated their 50th anniversary Saturday with a Model Aviation Day. Those who attended the event, held at  at Larksfield Road in Carlyss, were able to see flying demonstrations throughout the day,  Model jets, war birds, helicopters were on display, and in the skies.
