Joe Dumars, one of the greatest players in McNeese basketball history, is also one of the greatest players in Southland Conference history.

Today, as part of its 50th anniversary celebration, the Southland Conference named Dumars its player of the decade for the 1980s.

Dumars is joined on the all-1980s team by fellow Cowboys Jerome Batiste, Michael Cutright and Anthony Pullard *and* current McNeese head coach Dave Simmons, who was a 2-time all-conference player at Louisiana Tech.

Dumars is the Cowboys' all-time leading scorer and went on to have a hall of fame career with the NBA's Detroit Pistons.
