Teachers leaving jobs due to state education changes

JEFF DAVIS PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

Like many school systems in parishes across the state, educators are feeling the stress from the new changes and teaching requirements coming from the Louisiana Department of Education.

In Jeff Davis Parish, some educators are dealing with the stress in a different way -- by leaving the profession.

Brian LeJeune, Assistant Superintendent in Jeff Davis Parish, said 56 employees left last year alone.

That total includes five administrators, 25 retiring teachers and 26 resignations.

LeJeune said that total is about 17 percent of school employees in Jeff Davis Parish.

LeJeune said he hopes that percentage does not increase as more changes go into effect.
