CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

The Combined Anti-Drug Task Force made a drug bust on I-10 on Tuesday, according to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said on Tuesday, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Detective Sgt. Jeff Cole conducted a stop on a car traveling eastbound on I-10 near the I-210 Lake Charles Loop for a traffic violation.

Authorities said the driver of the car, 27-year-old Joemarko D. James, of Leesville, began to act suspiciously during the traffic stop.

"Sgt. Cole allowed his trained and certified drug detection K9 'Basco' to conduct a free air sniff around the car. After Basco provided a positive response to the odor of a controlled substance, a subsequent search revealed a plastic canister containing over 540 grams of cocaine in the car's trunk, with an estimated street value of $40,000," the release states.

James was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession of cocaine over 400 grams.

He was released on a $25,000 bond set by Judge Wilford Carter.
