SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A former Lindale firefighter has been sentenced to 180 days in the Smith County jail for DWI after crashing into a Tyler gas station.

29-year-old Christopher Combs was charged with driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration greater than .15 in August 2012.

In November 2011, Combs crashed into an Exxon gas station on Gentry Parkway after dozing off behind the wheel.

One of the gas station pumps was completely uprooted. Surveillance video from the crash showed the ice cream freezer inside the store slid across the floor when one gas pump hit the building.

The clerk working at the time said he had just closed up the store and barely escaped injury.

"There is just a right time of calculation, even a wrong time of calculation, and I was going to be totally smashed, thank God," Mohd Nayeen said.
