Attacked by a pack of Chihuahuas

Good morning!

Agnes DeRouen in the KPLC 7 Newsroom with a look at what we're working on for 7News@Noon.

As the automatic spending cuts loom closer on Capitol Hill, we'll take a look at how that would affect programs that battle domestic violence, vaccinations for children, and nutrition for the elderly.

We'll also have the story of a 6-year-old girl recovering from an attack by a pack of Chihuahuas! The girl and her dad were walking to school when five dogs reportedly ran up to them. You can see more about it HERE.

Also today, if you think it gets harder to lose weight after you turn 50 – you're right! There are scientific reasons for it, and the good news is there are still ways to battle the bulge. We'll explain what you can do.

Plus, if you think you've been getting more robo-calls than usual, you're not alone. The Federal Trade Commission reports a rise in pre-recorded telemarketing calls, and those calls are illegal.

The sunshine has returned, and so has the cooler temperatures. Ben tells me today will be a bit breezy, with highs slow to climb to near 60. Tonight promises to be cooler still under clear skies and calmer winds. How cold will it get, and what about tomorrow? Ben will have all the answers in his live, local forecast at noon.

At least we're out of the rain cycle for now. Many of us have seen a lot of water drenching our yards, but imagine this: so much water builds up in your back yard that it pushes a swimming pool right out of the ground!  It happened to one homeowner in Georgia, and you've got to see the video.

Remember, you can always watch us online at kplctv.com and on air. We hope you join us, and have a great day!

It's crunch time for Louisiana lawmakers.  Tuesday they begin a second special session to figure out the state's budget mess. The end of some temporary taxes means the state will face an estimated $650 million deficit when the new fiscal year begins July 1st.  During the regular session lawmakers could only make cuts to balance the budget, but in the special session tax hikes are back in play.  Governor John Bel Edwards wants increased sales taxes to bridge the budge...

Imagine lying helplessly on the floor in your home for days, waiting and hoping that someone will find you before it's too late. It happened to 80 year old Maggie Arcement who will never forget the ones who came to her rescue. Arcement sits on the side of the bed a few minutes after waking up in the morning. "Saying my prayers and my meditation and then I stand up and go on my way.  I do this so I don't get dizzy," she explains.  But last Monday her le...
