An East Baton Rouge sheriff's detective shot and killed his dog after it attacked his 2-year-old daughter.

The girl was bitten several times in the legs, arms and chest, and was scheduled for plastic surgery.

Firefighter Bob Gatley says Detective Terry Felton hit, kicked and choked the Rottweiler to get it off his daughter. He then pulled his gun and killed it.

The Sheriff's Office is still not sure to why the dog attacked.

The East Baton Rouge Animal Control Office says the dog will be checked for rabies.
