LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
For people who didn't want to get soaked in the rain on Sunday, there was also the annual Taste de la Louisiane inside the Lake Charles Civic Center.
It gave people the chance to eat traditional Cajun foods like etoufee, red beans and rice, gumbo and of course, Mardi Gras king cake.
And people from around the country were there, getting a taste of Mardi Gras in Southwest Louisiana.
Jim Hemming is a Nebraska resident.
"I really like the etoufee and the gumbo. In fact, I have frozen gumbo in my daughter's refrigerator to take back to Nebraska," he said.
Benoit Gayral is a French native.
"My word would be spicy. We are not used to food as spicy as here, but we like it. It's good," Gayral said.
Nancy Hanks is from northwest Pennsylvania.
"There is no comparison. Our food is good, but this is great," she said.
The event was so popular, food ran out about an hour before the event was over.
Organizers estimate they served over 700 people.
