Late rally pushes Centenary baseball past Louisiana College

A five-run, eighth inning led the Centenary baseball team to a 9-7, come from behind victory over Louisiana College on Saturday afternoon. The win evened the Gents' record at 1-1 on the season.

The Maroon and White tallied five of its 12 hits en route to the five-run inning. Ben Schweinfurth, Christian Sebastien and Matt Creamer each drove in runs in the inning with Schweinfurth driving in a pair to give the Gents the lead.

Schweinfurth doubled into left field to score Jemari James and Sebastien after the duo reached scoring position on ground ball out. Sebastien plated Tyler Clakley, who tripled to lead off the inning, to pull the Gents within a run.

Creamer closed out the scoring in the frame with a single to center pushing Nic Parrott across the dish after Schweinfurth scored on a Wildcats' error.

Schweinfurth and Creamer each posted three RBI in the win as they stood as two of the four Gents with multiple hits on the afternoon. Creamer led the way with three hits while Schweinfurth, Clakley and James all tallied a pair of hits each.

Grady Flournoy registered the win on bump with 2.1 innings of work while Paul Arcement garnered a save tossing the final inning. Flournoy fanned three batters in the victory while allowing one hit. Arcement struck out a pair along with a walk.

Jacob Trahan was saddled with the loss for the Wildcats. Trahan pitched 3.1 innings and surrendered all five, Gent runs while totaling two strikeouts.

The Gents scored runs in the three of the first four innings to take an early 4-0 advantage, but LC answered in the fifth inning with six runs to take the lead. The Wildcats added another run in the sixth to extend its margin.

Layton Tromba tossed 4.1 innings in the start for the Maroon and White allowing six runs on four hits with three walks. Holden Novak also toed the rubber with 1.1 innings of action surrendering a run on four hits.

Centenary returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 10 as the Gents face Williamette to close out the three-day event. First pitch is scheduled for 2p.m.
