LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
It was a morning of food, music and a chance to be the belle of the Mardi Gras ball.
And there was plenty of dancing to be had Tuesday at the Lake Charles Civic Center.
The Krewe of Golden Years held its annual celebration Tuesday.
The Calcasieu Council on Aging crowned Toni Caraway as this year's queen.
Caraway started the krewe. Now, she wears the crown.
"We've been holding this now all these years for our seniors. And I did this because I want to be able to afford them an opportunity to enjoy Mardi Gras. The elderly can't enjoy Mardi Gras like we can, going out see the parades and all the beautiful costumes. So, that's why I wanted to do this and it's been a huge, huge success," she said.
The celebration was free for seniors age 60 and over.
