CROWLEY, LA (KPLC) -

A California man has been charged in a reported scam in Crowley, according to a news release from Crowley Police Chief K.P. Gibson.

Gibson said that 26-year-old Timothy Ray Salgado is charged with uninvited soliciting and "hawking," a violation of Crowley city ordinances.

Investigators said Salgado is accused of selling magazine subscriptions at an increased rate to residents.

He also allegedly told residents that he was selling the magazines for a local fundraiser and that they had been referred to him by neighbors.

Salgado was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail, however, police said his workers left the Crowley area before being located.
