NEW ORLEANS (WAFB) -
Saints players spent the morning Thursday delivering a different kind of hit - helping build a new home in Central City for a very appreciative family.
"I always wanted a new home - not for me, but for my daughter," said Gloria Smith.
A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Smith literally danced with joy as the first wall of her future home went up.
Brian De La Puenta, Andy Tanner, Michael Higgens and even a one-handed Curtis Lofton helped do the honors.
It's a scene that will be repeated many times in the coming days as NFL players from various teams fan out across the city helping with more habitat builds and other service projects.
Not only does Gloria get help paying for her new house, she also gets bragging rights.
"That's something I can tell my grandchildren...if she ever has any," said Smith, pointing to her daughter. "Saints built our house."
Saints in more ways than one. Not only building a house, but a foundation for a new beginning.
"The world just opened up and I really want to thank God for everything. Thank God. My heart is full."
