CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles man is accused of forgery and theft, according to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Kelvin L. Brown, 26, is charged with 13 counts of forgery and theft over $1,500.

Authorities said on Jan. 26, deputies were dispatched after receiving a complaint from an alleged victim regarding several personal checks that had been stolen from his home.

Authorities said detectives learned that Brown had been hired to provide sitting services through a local company for the alleged victim's son.

Brown is accused of stealing the checks, forging the signatures and cashing them at a local bank.

"When questioned by detectives, Brown confirmed he forged the signature and cashed the stolen checks," the release states.

Brown was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Jail on Tuesday.

He has been released on $10,000 bond.
