KURTHWOOD, LA (KPLC) -

A bicyclist was killed Tuesday night in Leesville, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police, Troop E.

Troopers said they responded to the crash around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday. It happened on La. 117 near Mary Hunt Road.

Troopers said 21-year-old Joshua Pilley was riding a bicycle southbound on La. 117 when a 2005 Honda Accord, also heading southbound, struck him.

Troopers said Pilley was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Honda was not injured, according to troopers.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers said Louisiana law outlines that, "every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable."

Troop E troopers have investigated two fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in two fatalities.
