CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A Sulphur man is accused of failure to register as a sex offender, according to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said on Jan. 28, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office Compliance and Awareness Unit received information from Allen Parish officials about convicted sex offender, 38-year-old Ronnie L. Cowan Jr., formerly of Oakdale, possibly living at a home on Jim Pickens Road in Sulphur.

Authorities said detectives located and arrested Cowan at the home in Sulphur. He was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with failure to register as a sex offender.

Authorities said as required by law, when a sex offender moves, they must notify the parish or county they are registered in of their plan to move.

They also must register within three days with the parish or county they have moved to, under the law.

Cowan was convicted of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile in Beauregard Parish in September 1998, according to authorities.

Cowan's bond is still pending.
