SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
Officials are investigating an incident at an East Texas club where shots were fired, and one man was arrested.
Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith tells KLTV that 20-year-old Ricky Bruno was arrested by the Smith County Precinct 1 Constable's office Saturday night following an incident at the Outlaws club in Smith County. This is between Tyler and Whitehouse.
According to Sheriff Smith, Bruno was being escorted out of the club by an off duty Precinct 1 Deputy Constable who was working security at the club. Bruno got into his vehicle, and then according to the initial report, attempted to run into the Deputy Constable. That's when the Deputy Constable fired two shots at the vehicle. We are told Bruno was not hit by any of the shots. Bruno then crashed his car into a nearby ditch.
"I heard two gunshots and so I came outside and saw a car in the ditch at the exit of Outlaws and about three people ran up to the car and then I heard a man coughing and gagging and I couldn't tell if he was shot or just sick to his stomach," says a woman who witnessed the incident.
Authorities arrested Ricky Bruno at the scene. He was booked into the Smith County Jail and is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest. The Smith County Precinct 1 Constable's Office is investigating this incident.
The Smith County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident around the shots fired.
We are continuing to find out more information on this incident and will bring the latest to KLTV.com as that information becomes available.
