The McNeese softball Cowgirls are picked to finish second or third in the Southland Conference this year.

They have other ideas. Here's Seth Lewis.

The 2012 McNeese State Softball team had a solid season to most people's standards. They upset number one ranked Arizona State early in the year and finished 3rd in the Southland Conference with a 34 and 21 record. But to the Cowgirls, this was not enough.

So fast forward to 2013, and the expectations are sky high for 2nd year coach Mike Smith and his squad.

With the majority of their starters returning, the team's strength easily could be experience, their pitching staff, or their lineup. But they all agree, its their chemistry.

And as you can see...the girls have fun together. But when they head to California for their season opener in February, they'll be hanging their hat on another quality.

The preparation ends and the season begins February 7th. Seth Lewis, KPLC 7 Sports.
